Invasive Thyroid Angiosarcoma With a Favorable Outcome

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Thyroid angiosarcoma is a malignant neoplasm, which usually shows local aggressive behavior and associated with a high recurrence rate. It was originally described in the Alpine region and extremely rare in other parts of the world. CASE PRESENTATION An asymptomatic 61-year-old woman presented with a right lobe thyroid nodule with fine needle aspiration cytology indicating "suspicious for malignancy" was reported in our study. Histological examination revealed a vascular 35mm neoplasm with areas of necrosis. Immunohistochemistry staining had negative results for MNF, CAM5.2, CD34, thyroglobulin, and positive for CD31. The findings described were compatible with angiosarcoma diagnosis. Besides, a 4mm papillary microcarcinoma was found in the left lobe. Computerized tomography (CT) scan performed about two months after the operation, showed a right neck nodular lesion, conditioning tracheal deviation. At our institution, the study performed was consistent with local recurrence (angiosarcoma). Tumor excision was performed and invasion to larynx, trachea and esophagus was detected intraoperatively. Histopathologic examination confirmed tumor recurrence and the patient was submitted to radiotherapy (60 Gy), completed four years ago. There is not, so far, any evidence of tumor recurrence. CONCLUSIONS We described a rare case of a usually aggressive thyroid angiosarcoma in a patient living in a non-Alpine region, with an unusual favorable outcome after the operation and radiotherapy.

A case of coexistent angiosarcoma and follicular carcinoma of the thyroid.
Angiosarcoma of the thyroid has long been a controversial entity, and it is histologically defined as cleft-like anastosmosing spaces lined by large, atypical cells of endothelial lineage. However, clear-cut separation between the angiosarcoma and anaplastic carcinoma of the thyroid is difficult because they yield nearly the same clinical prognosis and overlapping histologic findings. We report...

Angiosarcomas of the scalp are aggressive invasive tumors that, more often than not, mimic benign painless skin lesions. We here report a case of angiosarcoma that was timely diagnosed and treated thanks to the dermoscopic rainbow pattern.

INTRODUCTION The follicular variant of papillary thyroid cancer (FVPTC) can be noninvasive or invasive. The invasive form of FVPTC commonly harbors BRAF mutations whereas RAS mutations are more often associated with noninvasive FVPTC and a favorable clinical outcome. CASE REPORT A 47-year-old man presented with a metastasis to his right iliac bone as the initial manifestation of a 1.6cm invas...

Angiomatoid tumors of the thyroid gland are rare endocrine neoplasms, which exhibit an aggressive behavior. Angiosarcomas of the thyroid are generally reported from the European Alpine region and have a histogenesis that has been under debate for a number of years. The current study presents a rare case of angiosarcoma of the thyroid in a 62-year-old Turkish female. The patient had a 10-year hi...

The finding of thyroid nodules is a very common occurrence in routine clinical practice. Approximately 5% to 7% of the entire population have thyroid nodules. Vascular lesions are one of the most controversial issues in thyroid pathology. These include benign lesions such as hemangiomas and, rarely, malignant tumors such as angiosarcomas or undifferentiated angiosarcomatoid carcinomas. In parti...
